Judges temporarily block Tennessee law letting state pick 6 of 13 on local pro sports facility board

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A panel of judges has blocked a new Tennessee law that would reconfigure the group overseeing professional sports facilities in Nashville by letting state leaders pick six of its 13 board members.Late last week, three judges agreed the law targeting the Nashville Sports Authority likely violates home rule protections in the state constitution by singling out Nashville and failing to require approval by local voters or two-thirds of the metro council. The temporary injunction blocks the law while the lawsuit by the city proceeds through court. The law would have taken effect Jan. 1.The ruling marks a fourth court decision against the state in the broader legal battle over laws passed by Republican legislators this year that dilute Democratic-leaning Nashville’s control, ranging from oversight of the international airport, to the size of the combined city-county metro council.Established by city officials under a corporate charter in 1995, the Nashville Sports ...

Broncos stock report: Too little, too late from Russell Wilson, Denver’s core players Sunday night vs. Patriots

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:44:05 GMT

Stock UpRB Jaleel McLaughlinThe Broncos rookie running back had 10 touches for 67 yards and looked poised to do more than that early in the game. McLaughlin has limitations, but he’s fast, he can make defenders miss and he brings a dynamic Denver’s other backs don’t have. It would be interesting over the last two games to see him take on a more significant role in Sean Payton’s offensive plan, both as a runner and a pass-catcher.WR Brandon JohnsonThe second-year man stepped in for Courtland Sutton (concussion) and played as extensively as he has all year. Johnson has been limited since returning from injured reserve several weeks ago but got 47 snaps and caught three balls for 47 yards and a touchdown, plus a two-point conversion. Johnson’s got burst, which he put on display on his 21-yard scoring grab. Depending on how Sutton progresses through concussion protocol, Denver may rely on Johnson again Sunday.TE Lucas KrullDenver might have found a useful player over the longer term in ...

Is December 26 the worst day to buy a home in California?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:44:05 GMT

Welcome to homebuying’s slowest day of the year.My trusty spreadsheet looked at some curious house-hunting stats from real estate tracker Attom, which tallied closed transactions and median pricing patterns by day of the year between 2013 and 2022. Yes, we’re talking daily data from closings – minus the bank holidays of New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, and Christmas. That data shows us that Dec. 26 is the slowest sales day of the year. The day after Christmas averaged 4,719 closings over 10 years, 62% below the average sales day in California with 12,270 closings in these 10 years. Obviously, sales are slow this time of year because who’d want to do big business amid holiday challenges and cheer.Curiously, those who did close deals on this day paid an average $390,000 price – 19% below California’s $480,000 10-year norm. That pricing averaged $9,200 above the estimated value – a premium that’s 56% below the typical markup of $20,700.So it seems like post-Christmas shopp...
