Wagner uprising is ‘direct challenge’ to Putin, Blinken says U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the Wagner mercenary group’s revolt against Russian President Vladimir Putin was a “direct challenge” to his authority and provides a battlefield advantage to Ukraine in its war to drive out Russian forces.“This raises profound questions. It shows real cracks,” Blinken said Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation. “We can’t speculate or know exactly where that’s going to go. We do know that Putin has a lot more to answer for in the weeks and months ahead.”Putin faced the biggest threat to his nearly quarter-century grip on power after Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin led his troops toward Moscow. The situation has stabilized after the Kremlin said Putin guaranteed that Prigozhin could travel to Belarus and would drop criminal mutiny charges against him and the Wagner fighters involved in the rebellion.Blinken, who gave a consistent message across four television interviews Sunday morning, said the U.S. is focused on supporting Ukraine and its...

Bumbling Mets implode in the 8th inning, suffer stunning 7-6 loss to the Phillies PHILADELPHIA — The 2023 Mets haven’t often been able to get out of their own way. Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies, it was no different. In this particular game, Francisco Lindor homered and Pete Alonso hit his league-leading 24th homer, and the Mets were almost able to overcome an inefficient start by Carlos Carrasco. But they couldn’t overcome an infield error and three walks and two hit batters by two relievers in the eighth inning. The Phillies scored four runs on only one hit in the eighth to come back from a 6-3 deficit to win 7-6 and take the series, 2-1.It was another stunning loss for the Mets (35-42) in a season full of them.Alonso’s home run came off left-hander Jose Alvarado in the seventh, an opposite-field insurance blast that ultimately wasn’t enough. Rookie reliever Josh Walker ran into trouble, loading the bases in the eighth without getting an out. Another defensive miscue, this one by Brett Baty at third, cost the Mets a run....

Timberwolves agree to three-year deal with Naz Reid Every time the 2022-23 Timberwolves were discussed by the franchise’s leadership, a reference was made to late in the season, when Minnesota reeled off a couple impressive wins over playoff teams in succession. That was when the team felt as though it was finally hitting its stride and the pieces were truly fitting together. Then Naz Reid went down with a wrist injury that ended the reserve big man’s season. And that was cited as a true momentum stopper for the franchise.A fan favorite, a beloved teammate – particularly of two of the franchise’s young pillars – and one of the organization’s most successful development stories, Reid has become a bit of a heroized meme within the Timberwolves’ fan base. But look past the silliness, and Reid was viewed as a lynchpin for this team by even the major stakeholders. Which is what made re-signing the free agent this offseason so pivotal for the franchise’s future. Minnesota got that done Sunday, as a source confirmed the Wolves and Reid agreed ...
