Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 11:37:00 GMT

Lately the Red Sox offense has come and gone, and after busting out of their slump Friday the bats fell cold again Saturday, managing only two runs against the Arizona Diamondbacks.Fortunately, this time that was enough for Garrett Whitlock and the Red Sox pitching staff.Whitlock was excellent in his return from the injured list, allowing one run over five strong innings in Boston’s 2-1 win over Arizona on Saturday. The bullpen did its part with four perfect innings of relief, and Kenley Jansen looked solidly back to himself by locking down career save No. 402 to close out the win.Making his return after a month on the IL with right elbow ulnar neuritis, Whitlock looked shaky initially. The right-hander gave up some loud contact early, including a solo home run to Ketel Marte in the bottom of the first, but settled down from there to effectively shut down the talented young Diamondbacks lineup. At one point Whitlock retired 12 straight hitters and ultimately allowed just the on...

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have reached an agreement in principle on legislation to increase the nation’s borrowing authority and avoid a default.Negotiators are now racing to finalize the bill’s text. Minnesota United manager Adrian Heath expressed this week what it feels like to play against Real Salt Lake.“It’s like having a toothache,” he said Thursday. “They never go away. They hang about.”The Loons and RSL played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Allianz Field. RSL stayed pesky, but it’s MNUFC’s home form that can feel like a deepening root canal. The Loons (5-5-4, 19 points) have one win in seven home games this season. Salt Lake (4-6-4, 16 points) is 5-3-6 against MNUFC all time in MLS and stayed near them in the current Western Conference standings. The Loons had trouble breaking down Salt Lake’s 4-4-2 defensive shape, and Minnesota relied on getting the ball wide and sending in 13 crosses in the first half and 20 in the match. The Loons had a few brief moments going through RSL’s defense with Franco Fragapane finding Bongi Hlongwane and Sang Bin Jeong. But in a season-long theme, the final product wasn’t good enough.Minnesota’s defensive lock was deftly picked ...
